KU celebrates Indian Philosophers’ Day with expert lectures

Srinagar : The Department of Philosophy, University of Kashmir (KU), in collaboration with the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi, celebrated Indian Philosophers’ Day at the Main Campus.
The event focused on revisiting the ideas of Indian philosophers, emphasizing their relevance to modern social and ethical issues while promoting critical engagement with India’s philosophical traditions among students and scholars. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan highlighted the significance of Indian philosophy in shaping our understanding of ethics, knowledge, and society, asserting that engagement with these traditions fosters critical thinking and social responsibility among students. Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal noted that such academic platforms enhance the culture of reflection and dialogue within universities. Dean Prof. Aejaz Mohammed Sheikh emphasized the role of philosophy in connecting classical thought with contemporary academic and social concerns. Prof. Tasleem War, Coordinator of the Department of Philosophy, outlined the program’s objectives and the importance of commemorating Indian Philosophers’ Day as a venue for ongoing academic engagement. The day-long event featured expert lectures from Prof. Sanuallah Mir, Prof. Gulshan Majeed, Prof. M. H. Zaffer, and Dr. Satish Vimal, who explored various themes related to Indian philosophical thought and its contemporary significance.
