The primary goal of the program was to inform and empower beneficiaries about available welfare schemes, ensuring they can access benefits, and also address legal aspects of the Dowry Prohibition Act, creating broad awareness against social evils.
To mark the occasion, DLSA Budgam deputed Deputy LADC and Assistant LADC as resource persons. In their addresses, they delivered insightful presentations aimed at enhancing understanding and awareness among the participants. Deputy LADC, elaborated on the NALSA Scheme, 2015, a comprehensive framework formulated by the National Legal Services Authority to ensure that persons living in poverty effectively access government anti-poverty and welfare schemes. He highlighted that the scheme focuses on the identification of eligible beneficiaries, provision of legal aid and support, and establishment of a robust monitoring and review mechanism. Emphasis was laid on addressing multidimensional poverty through access to healthcare, housing, education, and social inclusion.
He further underscored the importance of outreach and awareness programmes to educate marginalized communities about available welfare schemes and legal remedies, along with close coordination with concerned Government Departments to ensure smooth and timely delivery of benefits, with adequate flexibility to address local and region-specific needs. He also elaborated on the legal provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act, emphasizing its objectives, scope, and statutory safeguards.
Awareness programmes are organized to educate the public about the provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act and the rights of women concerning maintenance. Additionally, legal advice and free legal aid are extended to individuals facing dowry-related harassment or seeking maintenance through appropriate legal remedies.
