Bandipora, Dec 17: Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), North Kashmir Range, Maqsood-ul-Zaman on Wednesday said that combating the drug menace, militancy and rising social crimes remains the top priority of the police, with focused and aggressive measures underway to dismantle criminal networks across the region.
Addressing media persons after a public interaction programme in Hajin area of Bandipora district, the DIG said police have registered numerous cases related to narcotics and intensified operations to eliminate drug trafficking from society. He emphasized that action is not confined to the arrest of drug peddlers alone but also includes tracing and confiscating assets acquired through illegal drug money.
“All movable and immovable properties procured through proceeds of drug trafficking will be seized,” he said, adding that investigations are ongoing to identify and attach such assets in order to break the financial backbone of drug syndicates.
Highlighting the social impact of narcotics, DIG Maqsood-ul-Zaman described drug abuse as a grave threat to society, particularly to the youth. He said parallel efforts are being made to curb militancy and other social crimes to ensure peace and security in North Kashmir.
During the programme, the DIG also interacted with local residents, listened to their grievances and assured them of continued police-community engagement. He reiterated that public cooperation is vital for maintaining law and order and effectively addressing social and security challenges in the region.
