Srinagar : Police in Anantnag on Saturday organized drug awareness programmes at Bijbehara and Srigufwara as part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and sensitize the community about the harmful effects of narcotics.
The programmes in Anantnag saw active involvement from local residents, students, youth, civil society members, and shopkeepers. Officers from Anantnag Police addressed the gatherings, emphasizing the severe physical, psychological, and social repercussions of drug abuse, particularly among the youth. They underscored the necessity of collective responsibility in identifying, reporting, and preventing drug-related activities within the community. Participants were educated on various preventive measures and the legal provisions under the NDPS Act. The importance of guidance from parents, teachers, and community elders in steering youth towards a healthy, drug-free lifestyle was also highlighted. The police encouraged the public to report any information regarding drug trafficking and abuse, assuring that such communications would be treated with strict confidentiality. Police on the occasion reaffirmed its commitment to combat drug-related issues through ongoing enforcement efforts, awareness campaigns, and community engagement.
