Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has seized seven vehicles found transporting illegally extracted minerals at different locations across Baramulla and Pulwama.
In a statement issued here on Thursday police said that in Baramulla, law enforcers intercepted and seized a dumper and two tippers loaded with illegally extracted sand, along with a tractor involved in illegal sand transportation at Chakloo. These actions were conducted under the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMDR Act). Additionally, a JCB machine was seized in a joint operation by the Department of Geology & Mining and Police Post Wagoora for being involved in illegal soil extraction at Wagila following which legal proceedings were initiated under the MMDR Act. In Pulwama, police executed a rapid operation at Gund Achan Nallah, Rambiara, following a tip-off regarding unlawful extraction activities. During this operation, a tractor and a JCB were discovered engaged in illegal mining and were promptly seized. An FIR (No. 109/2025) has been registered at Police Station Litter under Section 303(2) & (3) of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. In its statement Police reiterated its commitment to combat illegal mining and safeguard natural resources, warning therein that strict actions will continue against violators besides appealing people to adhere to lawful practices.
