Says restoration of Qalie and downtown public spaces marks a new era of heritage revival and urban transformation”

Srinagar, 10 Dec: Chief Spokesperson of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference, and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for approving a series of transformative development projects aimed at restoring the historic charm and modern vibrancy of Srinagar city.

Sadiq said the city is set to witness a major urban revival with the beautification, restoration, and revival of the iconic Qalie (Fort Wall) from Kathi Darwaza to Sangeen Darwaza, terming it a landmark step toward safeguarding Srinagar’s centuries-old cultural heritage.

“The preservation of this historic fort wall is not just an infrastructural project, it is a tribute to our heritage, identity, and collective memory,” he stated.

He further highlighted the significance of the planned upgradation of public spaces from Badam Wari and Kathi Darwaza up to Hawal, which includes modern placemaking interventions, improved access to the revered Makhdoom Sahab shrine, and the development of a vibrant riverfront and lakeside experience.

“These initiatives represent a bold and progressive move toward reimagining Downtown Srinagar as a cleaner, greener, and more accessible urban space,” Sadiq remarked.

Addressing potential concerns or reservations regarding these initiatives, Sadiq emphasized that transformational development requires collective vision and unity of purpose.

“I understand that some may have concerns or even objections. But when the stakes are this high, personal ambitions and individual interests must take a back seat. Srinagar deserves to evolve into a world-class city, and our commitment to that goal must remain unwavering,” he said.

Sadiq reaffirmed that the National Conference remains fully committed to the holistic development of Srinagar and the preservation of its rich heritage, while ensuring that modern urban needs are met with sensitivity and foresight.

“These projects approved by the Hon’ble Chief Minister mark a new chapter for Srinagar, one that blends history with modernity and sets the foundation for a brighter, more beautiful future,” he added.
