Jammu : The J&K Softball (Men & Women) teams were Tuesday provided sports kits here at MA Stadium Jammu as the athletes prepare to represent J&K in the 47th Senior National Softball Championship, scheduled to be held in West Bengal from 14th to 18th December.

A total of 32 athletes, 16 men and 16 women are part of the J&K contingent participating in the prestigious national event. The ceremony was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Minhas who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest in the presence of Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul and other senior officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rakesh Minhas congratulated the athletes and highlighted the rising stature of Jammu & Kashmir in the national sports landscape. He said, “J&K’s presence in the country’s sports ecosystem is steadily strengthening, thanks to the dedication of our athletes and the support systems being built across the UT. Our softball teams reflect this progress and I am confident they will compete with determination and bring laurels to Jammu & Kashmir.”

Secretary J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul emphasised both opportunity and equality for athletes across disciplines. She said, “The rise of softball in J&K is a testament to our players’ commitment and the growing sports culture in J&K. What makes this contingent special is the equal participation of both men and women, reaffirming our belief in gender equality and inclusive sports development. The Government of J&K remains committed to providing every athlete regardless of gender with the facilities, exposure and support they deserve. I am confident our teams will make the entire region proud.”

The ceremony concluded with encouraging interactions between officials and athletes, who expressed gratitude for the support and facilities provided by the Government as they gear up for the national championship.
