Over 200 students, staff members screened
Srinagar : An Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) screening and awareness camp was organized at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar by the District Tuberculosis Centre (DTC) Srinagar in collaboration with the Institute’s Medical Unit.
The initiative aimed to enhance surveillance and early detection of respiratory infections, particularly during the winter months when such illnesses are more prevalent. The camp focused on identifying ARI symptoms and ensuring timely screening for students and staff to prevent complications from delayed diagnoses. A team of healthcare professionals from Block Hazratbal and the District TB Centre conducted the screenings, which included symptom-checking and basic clinical assessments, while also providing information on preventive measures and available diagnostic facilities for tuberculosis and other respiratory infections. Over 200 individuals were screened during the event, reflecting a strong turnout and recognition of the importance of health initiatives within the campus community. Dr. Gawhar Nabi, Medical Officer at NIT Srinagar, emphasized that the screening was part of routine health preparedness, highlighting the significance of early identification and timely referrals for treatment. Dr. Seema Ashraf from UPHC Hazratbal noted that the high participation rate indicated improved health awareness among students, reinforcing the effectiveness of early detection in controlling infections. The camp was conducted under standard protocols and coordinated with field-level surveillance teams, contributing to ongoing district-level outreach programs aimed at reducing the burden of respiratory diseases.
