Srinagar|Dec, 7 : J&K Police on Sunday intensified inspections of medical shops, chemists and pharmacies across the Srinagar city to bolster transparency, prevent misuse of premises for unlawful activities and strengthen security within health institutions.
Police said the inspections were carried in line with ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in health institutions and security protocols within the city.
The massive searches and inspections over the last month have been a fallout of the inter-state Jaish-e-Mohammad and Ansar Ghazwatul Hind module that was busted and is believed to be behind the last month Red Fort blast in Delhi. A large quantity of explosives were recovered from the module which had four doctors, three of them from Kashmir. Last month J&K police seized a rifle from a locker at Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, which had been allotted to one of the accused in the blast.
Police said the inspections were aimed at preventing misuse of medical shops for unauthorized storage of illegal or hazardous materials, furthering of unlawful activities and strengthening the internal security within medical institutions, a police statement said.
Police said the medicines, medical equipments and cash books were thoroughly examined, and shop owners were reminded to maintain proper safety protocols and mandatory documentation requirements.
During the inspections, Police teams verified proper maintenance of stock and sales records, identity verification procedures for purchasers, compliance with security-related guidelines and validity of licenses and adherence to regulatory norms
Shop owners were briefed on the heightened security scenario and were urged to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious transactions, and maintain complete transparency in operations, police said.
Such inspections will be conducted regularly as part of routine vigilance to maintain a safe and secure environment in the city.
