Shopian : A meeting of the District Road Safety Committee was Friday held under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta to review measures aimed at improving traffic management and ensuring road safety across the district.

During the meeting, the Chair conducted a detailed review of the Action Taken Report (ATR) on decisions made during the last review meeting. The meeting witnessed threadbare discussions on various issues pertaining to traffic regulation, road conditions and safety of commuters within the district.

The DC directed that a dedicated committee be constituted for the identification of vulnerable and black spots prone to road accidents so that necessary remedial measures can be taken promptly. He emphasized coordinated action among all stakeholder departments to enhance road safety infrastructure and minimize road accidents in the district.

Executive Officer, Municipal Council Shopian, was instructed to ensure the relocation of roadside vendors to designated vending zones to ease traffic congestion in the town areas.

Moreover, concerned departments including Municipal Council, MVD, and the Police Department were directed to strictly enforce traffic rules and impose fines on violators, particularly those involved in illegal or wrong parking along busy roads.

The Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department was also asked to ensure timely maintenance of the road network by filling potholes and undertaking necessary repairs to ensure smooth vehicular movement.

The meeting was attended by SSP Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary; ADDC Shopian, Dr Nasir Ahmad Lone; ADC Shopian, Dr Zakir Hussain Faaz and other members of district road safety committee.
