University of Jammu’s Prof J. P. Singh Joorel Receives Prestigious IARS Lifetime Achievement Award

Jammu, Dec 04: In recognition of an outstanding and sustained contribution to teaching, research, and the development of higher education institutions in India, Prof J P Singh Joorel has been conferred with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Association for Reliability and Statistics (IARS). The honour was presented by Hon’ble Education Minister of Government of Haryana, Shri Mahipal Dhanda and Chaudhary Dharambir Singh, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), in the gracious presence of Prof. Rajbir Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak during an “International Conference on Global Advances in Statistical Modelling, Optimization Techniques, Data Science” at Rohtak. This recognition celebrates Prof J P Singh Joorel’s remarkable contributions over several decades in advancing academic excellence, promoting cutting-edge research, and shaping the growth of higher educational institutions in India.

He has completed “Leadership for Academician Programme (LeAp)”  at Monash University, Australia (Selected by Ministry of Education, Govt of India).  Presently, he is working as Dean Academic Affairs and Professor of Statistics at the University of Jammu, Jammu, J&K. He has successfully headed the INFLIBNET Centre (An Autonomous Inter-University Centre of University Grants Commission, Ministry of Education, Govt of India) Gandhinagar, Gujarat as Director (Vice Chancellor’s Rank) for five years.

He has vast exposure to working in National Bodies dealing with academic and educational growth of the institutions of higher learning. He has immensely contributed to higher education institutions and their management by serving as Member on the Council of the premier institute “The Indian Statistical Institute” and Governing Bodies of several Autonomous Colleges besides Member of the Planning and Monitoring Board of Universities and Member Syndicate, Member of University Court and Executive Council of Central University of Haryana, Planning and Monitoring Board of the Central University of Gujarat, ICT Committee of NAAC, Academic Council of Consortium of Educational Communication (Inter-University Centre of UGC), Empowered Committee of UGC-CARE (Consortium for Academic and Research Ethics), Implementation Core Committee of NIRF and Framework Development Committee and Team of Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIA), Research Council of NIScPR-CSIR, Academic Planning Board of Chaudhary Devi Lal University Sirsa, Haryana, etc. He has also contributed as Member in the Expert Group on “Technology Use and Integration” for Formulation and drafting Implementation Plan, drafting guidelines for setting up Research & Development Cell in HEIs and framing guidelines for Research Internship with Faculty and Researchers at HEIs constituted by the University Grants Commission for Implementation of National Education Policy-2020, Expert Committee to Look into Various Matters Related to Accreditation NAAC and headed the Expert Committee to Carry out the System and Process Audit of NAAC.  He remained Chairperson of NAAC Peer Team of several Colleges and Universities for their accreditation.

He has widely travelled and visited the U.S.A., Australia, Portugal, Thailand, Taiwan, and Malaysia for academic pursuits and participated in several international programmes/ seminars/conferences as Chairperson of technical sessions, invited speaker and delegate.

He also remained Member of Search Committees for the appointment of Vice Chancellors of Universities in India.
