Awantipora: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), today organized a special get-together to celebrate the University’s receipt of the prestigious 6th National Water Award in the category of ‘Best Institution (other than school or college)’. The award, conferred by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, in November 2025 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, recognises IUST’s pioneering initiatives in water conservation and sustainable environmental management.
The celebratory program at IUST, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Shakil A Romshoo and organized by Registrar Prof. Abdul Wahid Makhdoomi, highlighted the university’s achievements in sustainable water management. Key stakeholders, including Er. Iftikhar Ahmed Kakroo and Er. Naseer Ahmed Kakroo, were recognized for their significant contributions to the university’s conservation model. Prof. Romshoo commended the university community for their collective efforts, emphasizing that the recognition underscores IUST’s dedication to innovation-driven environmental stewardship. He acknowledged the vital roles played by faculty, engineers, students, and field teams in establishing a sustainable water management model, particularly important for mountainous regions facing water stress and flash flood risks. Dignitaries at the event praised IUST’s ongoing initiatives in water conservation, noting the importance of scientific management and long-term preservation of the region’s natural water resources for sustainable development. The award positions IUST among a select group of institutions nationwide that are setting new standards in water sustainability, ecological conservation, and climate-resilient infrastructure.
