BSF IG Warns of ‘White Collar’ Radicalization, Narco-Terror

Says“22 Joint Ops Conducted; LoC Infiltration Attempts Low, 8 Terrorists Killed, 5 Repelled in Four LoC Attempts”

Srinagar: The Border Security Force (BSF) Monday said that it has noticed a significant decline in infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC) this year, attributing this success to enhanced coordination and proactive intelligence sharing with the Indian Army.
Addressing the Annual Press Meet 2024–25 at BSF Frontier Headquarters at Humhama the IG Kashmir Frontier Ashok Yadav highlighted that only four infiltration attempts were recorded, involving thirteen infiltrators, of whom eight were neutralized and five pushed back. This reduction is seen as a result of improved synergy and quicker intelligence responses. However, Yadav pointed out emerging internal security challenges, particularly narco-terrorism and “white-collar” radicalization. He noted a concerning trend where educated youths are being recruited for ideological and logistical support roles, making detection difficult as these individuals often do not appear in security databases. The BSF is intensifying efforts to identify and dismantle these radicalization networks in collaboration with local police and intelligence agencies. Narco-terrorism was described as a hybrid threat, with increased attempts to smuggle narcotics into Kashmir, particularly in the Tangdhar and Keran sectors. Yadav emphasized that drugs are being used to fund terrorism and undermine the youth in the region. The BSF is actively tracking and neutralizing these smuggling attempts through layered surveillance and local coordination, including intercepting female couriers and deploying Mahila Praharis at strategic choke points. In the past year, the BSF conducted 22 joint operations with various security forces, resulting in the recovery of substantial quantities of arms and explosives. The force has also supported anti-terror and anti-radicalization efforts in the hinterland. Yadav affirmed the BSF’s effective dominance over the LoC, underscoring the importance of border vigilance and internal intelligence sharing in their operations. Beyond operational activities, the BSF is engaged in civic action programs, including initiatives under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Bharat Darshan tours for border students, and pre-recruitment training for local youth, aiming to foster partnerships with border communities for peace and national security. Additionally, the BSF played a crucial role in ensuring a secure Amarnath Yatra 2025, deploying 128 companies across four districts with specialized rescue and medical teams.
