SCERT Jammu hosts One-Day Seminar on Strengthening School Libraries

Jammu: To revitalise school libraries and enhance their effectiveness in the Teaching–Learning process, the Library & Documentation Wing of SCERT J&K, Divisional Office Jammu, organised a One-Day Seminar on “The Role of Heads of Institutions of High Schools in Making Libraries an Integral Part of the Learning-Teaching Process.”
The programme was conducted under the visionary mentorship of Shantmanu, Financial Commissioner and Director SCERT J&K and the able guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Sindhu Kapoor, Joint Director, SCERT Jammu Division, and witnessed the participation of forty Heads of Institutions representing ten districts of Jammu Division.
The seminar commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest Prof. Sangita Gupta, Dean, Planning & Development; Head, Department of Library & Information Science; and Head, Department of Psychology, University of Jammu, along with Joint Director, SCERT Jammu Division and all Unit Heads and Coordinator of the program.
A cordial welcome address was presented by Ruchi Mohan, Associate Coordinator, followed by a concept note from Dr. Bhuvi, Coordinator, outlining the aims, objectives and expected outcomes of the program.
Subsequently, the Chief Guest, Prof. Sangita Gupta delivered the keynote address, elucidating that today’s libraries must evolve into dynamic centres of learning, collaboration and innovation. She urged Heads of Institutions to champion technology-enabled access and learner-centered library environments to meet the educational aspirations of the 21st century.
In her address, Prof. (Dr.) Sindhu Kapoor, Joint Director, SCERT Jammu Division, stressed the need to transform school libraries into vibrant learning hubs aligned with NEP 2020. She underscored the pivotal role of Heads of Institutions in integrating library resources into classroom learning and assured continued support from SCERT in strengthening library systems across the division.
The seminar featured technical sessions conducted by Vidya Lal, Chief Librarian, GDC Jindrah, who highlighted the leadership role of Heads of Institutions in ensuring effective integration of library resources with classroom learning to cultivate vibrant academic spaces.
Mansha Khajuria, Librarian, GDC Kathua elaborated on the significance of digital platforms and e-repositories in bridging learning gaps and enhancing access to information.
The smooth conduct of the event was ensured through the meticulous supervision of Sanjeev Suri, Head AU-I, and Parveen Akhter, Wing Head, supported by the organising team: Rakesh Chobber (Technical Coordinator), Bikram Singh, Rukhsana Gulbadan, Shamim Nazki, Arsh Kour and Pratibha Jamwal.
A significant component of the day was the observance of the 150th anniversary of the national song “Vande Mataram,” articulated through inspiring video presentations underscoring its historical and cultural legacy. The event culminated in a valedictory session where certificates of participation were distributed to all Heads of Institutions and the programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks extended by Ruchi Mohan, Associate Coordinator.
