Indian Squad Presents Autographed Bat Following Historic Victory in Colombo
NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met and personally congratulated the victorious Indian Women’s Blind Cricket Team at his residence, following their historic and unbeaten run to win the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup.
The Prime Minister was presented with an autographed bat by the players, a gesture of appreciation for his support. The Indian squad reciprocated the honor by requesting the Prime Minister to sign a cricket ball for them.
The team created history on November 23rd in Colombo, Sri Lanka, when they defeated Nepal by a commanding seven wickets in a one-sided final. India’s performance was dominant throughout the tournament, where they remained undefeated.
In the final match, India restricted Nepal to 114 for 5 in their 20 overs. The chase was spearheaded by opener Phula Saren, who smashed a match-winning 44 runs off just 27 balls, helping India comfortably overhaul the target in just 12.1 overs. Saren was awarded the Player of the Match for her decisive performance.
During the interaction, Prime Minister Modi praised the team’s achievement, calling it a “shining example of hard work, teamwork, and determination,” and expressed confidence that their success would inspire generations of young girls across the country.
