Ganderbal, 29 Nov: Kurag Tulmulla has increasingly emerged as a major hotspot for illegal sand mining, raising serious concerns among residents who say the unregulated activity is damaging the environment and endangering public safety. Heavy vehicles are frequently spotted operating in the area—often late at night and early in the morning—with little adherence to environmental guidelines.
When contacted, District Mineral Officer (DMO) Ganderbal, Murtaza Bashir, acknowledged the issue and assured that the department will visit the site and take stringent action against all those involved in the illegal extraction.
Meanwhile, Ganderbal Police continue their intensified crackdown on illegal mining. In recent weeks, they have seized dozens of vehicles being used for the unlawful extraction and transportation of sand, reiterating their commitment to curbing the menace.
Locals have urged the administration to ensure continuous monitoring and strict enforcement to protect the area’s natural resources from further exploitation.
