Awantipora : Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST), has been awarded the prestigious J. C. Bose Fellowship for 2025 by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) of the Government of India.
The fellowship is one of India’s highest scientific honors, recognizing scientists who exhibit sustained excellence and leadership in their fields. Prof. Romshoo is a distinguished earth scientist with over 37 years of experience, particularly in Himalayan glaciology, hydrology, and climate change. His research has significantly influenced national policy and India’s stance in various international environmental discussions. The ANRF highlighted the transformative nature of his work, especially regarding water security, climate adaptation, disaster preparedness, and transboundary water sharing. The fellowship, valued at ₹1.3 crore, will support his ongoing research into cryosphere–climate–water interactions. It acknowledges his capability to lead complex, multi-institutional research initiatives. With an impressive scholarly record of over 290 publications, including more than 50 lead-author papers in the last five years, Prof. Romshoo has received numerous accolades, such as the National Geoscience Award and the Satish Dhawan Award. He is also an elected Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and other prominent scientific organizations. IUST has extended its congratulations to Prof. Romshoo for this esteemed recognition.
