Srinagar: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Wednesday marked Constitution Day (Samvidhan Divas) with dignity and enthusiasm at its headquarters, reaffirming its commitment to the principles and values enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
The main celebration, held at the SMC Headquarters, featured a vibrant and solemn ceremony that set the tone for observances across the city. The celebration witnessed active participation from officials and employees of all wings of the Corporation.
Commissioner SMC, Faz Lul Haseeb, graced the occasion, reflecting the Corporation’s strong leadership commitment to promoting constitutional values. Alongside the central celebration, Constitution Day was observed across all 35 Administrative Wards of SMC, ensuring widespread public awareness and participation at the grassroots level.
The observance commenced with the reading of the Preamble of the Constitution, led by Joint Commissioner Administration, Nuzhat Qureshi. The recital served as a reaffirmation of India’s foundational ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.
In her address, the Joint Commissioner Administration highlighted the importance of constitutional literacy and the role of local self-government institutions in strengthening democratic values. She reiterated SMC’s commitment to serving the citizens of Srinagar with transparency, integrity, and dedication.
To encourage deeper understanding and engagement with constitutional principles, debate and quiz competitions were organized for SMC officials. Certificates were awarded to the winners, acknowledging their enthusiasm and active participation.
The program also featured discussions on constitutional rights and fundamental duties, emphasizing the vital role of municipal governance in upholding democratic ideals and advancing citizen welfare.
The Srinagar Municipal Corporation concluded the celebrations with a renewed commitment to uphold the values of the Constitution, strengthen democratic governance, and work tirelessly for the welfare of all citizens of Srinagar.
