Jammu :  The city came alive Wednesday as the 42nd Junior (Boys & Girls) National Tennikoit Championship commenced at Green Field, Gandhi Nagar.

The five-day event, hosted under the auspices of the Tennikoit Federation of India and J&K Tennikoit Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, has drawn around 550 players and officials from 23 States and UTs, making it one of the largest national sporting gatherings in Jammu in recent years.

In her inaugural address, Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services & Sports, Yasha Mudgal, who declared the championship open, highlighted J&K’s growing stature as a hub for major national sporting events. She emphasized that the government’s consistent focus on upgraded infrastructure, advanced coaching and structured grassroots opportunities is enabling the young athletes, especially those from J&K, to compete, learn and rise at the national stage. She reiterated that sports continue to play a pivotal role in guiding youth towards discipline, fitness, and a drug-free life.

Director ACB, Shakti Pathak, who graced the event as Guest of Honour, appreciated the Youth Services & Sports Department and the Sports Council for continually expanding competitive platforms for young athletes. He underlined how increased sporting engagement is shaping a healthier and more productive youth force.

The opening ceremony also witnessed participation from senior officials and representatives of the Tennikoit Federation of India and J&K Sports Council who praised the energy and enthusiasm displayed by athletes from across the country.

Delivering the vote of thanks, representatives of the Tennikoit Federation of India acknowledged the unwavering support of the Youth Services & Sports Department and J&K Sports Council in bringing major national championships to the region and creating meaningful sporting opportunities for local athletes.

With J&K hosting yet another national-level championship, the event marks a strong step forward in positioning the region as a vibrant and promising centre for sporting excellence
