Ganderbal : The Department of Law at the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) commemorated the 76th Constitution Day with a program featuring prominent jurists, university officials, faculty, and students.
The event was presided over by Justice Sanjeev Kumar Shukla and Guest of Honour Justice Vineet Kothari, both of whom emphasized the importance of constitutional values. Justice Shukla provided an insightful discussion on key constitutional principles such as sovereignty, democracy, and secularism, tracing their historical roots and stressing the need for tolerance in society. He urged students to embrace constitutional morality and respect for individual dignity as essential to national unity. Justice Kothari praised the Indian Constitution as a meticulously crafted document, underscoring the significance of fraternity as a unifying force in India’s diverse society. He encouraged students to reflect on their fundamental duties, which are often overshadowed by rights discussions. Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Ravinder Nath highlighted the School of Legal Studies as a dynamic part of the university, advocating for a holistic approach to legal education that includes experiential learning and community engagement. He called for the integration of value-based education into the curriculum, emphasizing the importance of understanding societal legal needs. Dean Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir provided an overview of the School’s achievements in legal education, including legal aid initiatives and student-led awareness programs. He stressed the importance of pro bono work in the legal profession.
