Jammu : Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma on Saturday, accused the party of committing “electoral fraud” by promising free electricity before elections and now burdening the people with proposed hefty 20 percent tariff hike.
In a statement issued here on Saturday Sunil Sharma criticized the National Conference’s (NC) 2024 election manifesto, claiming it has failed due to false promises. He highlighted Omar Abdullah’s commitment to provide 200 units of free electricity to every household in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that instead of fulfilling this promise, the government is planning a significant 20 percent increase in peak-hour electricity charges. Sharma challenged Abdullah to disclose the actual number of households that have received the promised free electricity, emphasizing the need for transparency regarding the misleading assurances made to the public. Sharma expressed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will oppose any initiatives that increase the financial burden on citizens. He noted that the proposed tariff hike has sparked widespread discontent among various stakeholders, including political parties, traders, and consumers, who view it as an unjust and exploitative measure. He urged the NC government to retract the proposal and fulfill its electoral commitments rather than penalizing the very constituents it pledged to assist.
