JSouth Africa 23 Nov : Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Italian counterpart, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, reaffirming the growing depth and momentum of the India–Italy partnership.
During the meeting, both leaders engaged in wide-ranging discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors including trade, investment, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, defence and security, space collaboration, research, innovation and cultural exchange. They expressed satisfaction over the significant progress being achieved under the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–29, noting that the roadmap continues to generate tangible benefits for both economies and their citizens.
In a major step forward in global security cooperation, India and Italy adopted the India–Italy Joint Initiative to Counter Financing of Terrorism, underscoring their shared and uncompromising commitment to eliminating terrorism in all its forms.
Prime Minister Meloni also extended strong support for the AI Summit scheduled to be hosted by India in 2026, reflecting the two nations’ shared ambition to champion innovation and shape a secure and inclusive technological future.
The meeting concluded with both leaders reiterating their resolve to work closely in bilateral, regional and global arenas to further elevate the India–Italy partnership in the years ahead.
