Minister reiterates commitment to holistic dev in border areas

Uri: In a major push to infrastructure development in the border region of Uri, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Transport, Science & Technology, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, and ARI & Trainings Departments, Satish Sharma, Thursday laid the foundation stones for two pivotal public development projects “Indoor Stadium and TSO Office Building” at Uri.
Present on the occasion were MLA Uri, Dr. Sajad Shafi, senior district officials, officers of PWD (R&B), Division Uri, representatives of local bodies and locals.
The Minister highlighted the government’s commitment towards strengthening the sports infrastructure in far-flung and border regions of the Union Territory. “The Indoor Stadium will include modern facilities such as multi-purpose indoor courts, seating galleries, changing rooms and rest areas besides facilities for indoor training and coaching for the youth and aspiring sportspersons”, he maintained.
The Minister stated that the project marks a significant milestone for the youth of Uri, who have consistently shown talent and enthusiasm in various sports disciplines. He emphasized that the government is taking concrete steps to ensure that sports infrastructure in remote areas is at par with the urban centres. “Our youth deserve the best opportunities, irrespective of geography. This Indoor Stadium will not only boost the sports activities but will also nurture discipline, teamwork and fitness among the young people,” he said.
Later, Satish Sharma laid the foundation stone for Tehsil Supply Office (TSO) Building, a long-pending requirement that will streamline the functioning of the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department.
The Minister asserted that creation of a dedicated TSO Office will significantly ease the public access to essential services and enhance transparency and efficiency in departmental operations.
While interacting with the people, the Minister emphasized that border areas like Uri are receiving focused attention from the government both in terms of infrastructure development and social empowerment. He emphasised the need for exploring possibilities of developing Uri as an all weather sports destination on account of its climatic advantage. He assured the public that both projects would be executed within the stipulated time frame.
“Quality standards will be strictly monitored and the departments will work in close coordination to avoid delays in project execution and completion as well. Besides, additional developmental works for Uri are under active consideration, ” maintained the Minister.
MLA Uri, Dr. Sajjad Shafi, appreciated the Minister for his continued focus on Uri’s development. He said, “These projects will address the critical gaps in sports infrastructure and administrative facilities. Uri’s youth and citizens will benefit immensely from these developments.”
