Awantipora : The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) organized a two-day national workshop titled Artificial Intelligence and Higher Education: Relevance and Responsible Innovation, aimed at bringing together experts and educators to explore the opportunities, challenges, and ethical dimensions of AI in higher education. The workshop seeks to enrich academic dialogue, promote responsible AI adoption, and encourage collaboration toward an inclusive and innovation-driven AI future.
Dr. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chairperson Higher Education Commission (J&K UT), served as the Chief Guest at the inaugural session, where he emphasized the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in everyday life. He advocated for the development of AI models that are socially beneficial and aligned with human needs. Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, the Vice Chancellor, highlighted the importance of integrating AI advancements with the national initiatives of “Make in India” and “Make for India,” calling for the creation of indigenous technologies that address local challenges. Prof. A. H. Moon, Dean of Academic Affairs, discussed the National Education Policy 2020, which promotes the concept of AI + X, underscoring the necessity of incorporating AI across various disciplines to enhance multidisciplinary learning and equip students with future-ready skills. The workshop featured presentations from distinguished experts, including Prof. Atulya Nagar, Mr. Vedant Ahluwalia, Prof. Shobha Bagai, Prof. Millie Pant, Ms. Neha Pushkarna, and Mr. Vikram Bhattacharya, who shared their insights on AI’s applications and implications. Additionally, the program included panel discussions, notably one on “AI in Education,” chaired by Prof. Dinesh Singh and co-chaired by Prof. A. H. Moon, which provided interdisciplinary perspectives on the integration of AI into educational practices and institutional strategies. The workshop received partial sponsorship from JK Bank and the Syed Mir Qasim Memorial Trust, reflecting a collaborative effort to advance AI in education.
