Ganderbal : Health Centre and the School of Life Sciences (SLS), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) in collaboration with the Cancer Society of Kashmir (CSK), organized a Cancer Awareness Programme to observe National Cancer Awareness Day, at Science Campus, Nunar on Thursday.
In his welcome address Dr. Abid Ahmad Sofi, Medical Officer and Incharge Health Centre, highlighted the critical role of regular health checkups, early screening, and collective responsibility in enhancing cancer awareness during his welcome address. The event featured a series of lectures from prominent speakers at CSK, including Prof. (Dr.) M. Maqbool Lone, Prof. (Dr.) Nisar Ahmad Wani, and Prof. (Dr.) Nazir Ahmad Khan, with the presence of Prof. Akhtar Nakeeb, Vice Chairman of CSK. Prof. Lone addressed the increasing prevalence of cancer in the region and the necessity of dispelling myths surrounding the disease. Prof. Wani emphasized the importance of recognizing symptoms early to improve treatment outcomes. Prof. Nazir Ahmad Khan discussed preventive measures, focusing on the impact of diet, exercise, and lifestyle choices on cancer risk reduction.
