G’bal : The Ministry of Education, Government of India, has sanctioned a Revised Cost Estimate (RCE) of ₹ 998.62 crore for the establishment of the permanent campus of the Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) in Tulmulla. The decision, following the Public Investment Board’s recommendations, marks a significant milestone in the university’s development, aimed at enhancing its academic infrastructure and visibility.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A Ravinder Nath, presented the university’s locational advantages, including its scenic environment and access to bio-resources, while also addressing existing challenges such as inadequate infrastructure and limited national ranking visibility. He emphasized the potential for growth with sufficient financial backing and expertise, highlighting the need for improved facilities for faculty and staff, as well as program expansion. The project encompasses a total cost of ₹ 998.62 crore, with a capital outlay of ₹ 517.07 crore and recurring costs of ₹ 481.55 crore, which includes expenditures incurred since the university’s inception in 2009. The implementation period is set for 36 months, from FY 2025 to 2028, with a focus on creating a state-of-the-art, green, digital, and smart campus. This initiative is expected to position CUKashmir as a center for quality higher education and research, contributing to the socio-economic development of Jammu and Kashmir.
