Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Kulgam and Awantipora including a Nepali national.
According to a police statement issued here on Tuesday police in Kulgam intercepted a vehicle at Alstop Chowk, Mir Bazar, and recovered charas weighing 1.100 kilograms from its luggage compartment and during checking, a Nepal national, identified as Lalit Giri S/o Narender Giri R/o Jajhar Kote, Nepal, was found in possession of the contraband substance. The accused was traveling in a vehicle bearing registration number JK07-5482, driven by Asad Ullah S/o Mohd Qasim R/o Kargil who was later arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also eized. A case under FIR No. 239/2025 under sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Qazigund, and further investigation has been taken up to identify the backward and forward linkages of the drug network.
Moreover the preliminary investigation revealed that the Nepal national had entered India about six days ago, procured the contraband from an area in Shimla, and was enroute to Ladakh for drug peddling purposes. Investigation in the matter is still going on. In a similar action in Awantipora, a Police team of Police Station Pampore at a checkpoint established at Laterbal near Gas Plant, Pampore arrested three drug peddlers identified as Ashfaq Ahmad KhandayS/o Ghulam Qadir R/o Wuyan, Muhammad Maqbool Rather S/o Abdul Ahad R/o Pustona Tral and Abid Hussain Khan S/o Nazir Ahmad Khan R/o Larow, Tral . During search, police recovered 725 grams of Bung Chura and 25 grams of Charas-like substance from their possession. Meanwhile a case under FIR No. 119/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Pampore. In its statement police appeaked people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling or related activities.
