DC Poonch flags off group of orchardists for exposure visit under MIDH/ATMA schemes

40 progressive farmers to gain hands-on experience in advanced Horticulture practices at SKUAST-K, CITH, other centres of excellence

Jammu : Deputy Commissioner Poonch Ashok Kumar Sharma Monday flagged off a group of orchardists from the DC Office for a Within-UT Training-cum-Exposure Visit organized under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) and Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) schemes. The program has been organized by the Horticulture Department.

The Deputy Commissioner interacted with the farmers and encouraged them to take full advantage of the government schemes aimed at promoting modern horticulture practices. He extended his best wishes to the participants and emphasized the importance of acquiring knowledge of advanced cultivation techniques and scientific horticultural practices to boost productivity and income.

A total of 40 progressive farmers from different horticulture zones and blocks of District Poonch have been deputed for this training-cum-exposure visit. The group will visit Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST)-Kashmir, the Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture (CITH) and other leading research stations, nurseries and Centres of Excellence across the Union Territory.

The main objective of this exposure visit is to familiarize the farmers with modern, scientific techniques of fruit cultivation and to enhance their technical knowledge and practical skills in contemporary horticultural practices.

For effective supervision and coordination of the tour, District Level Officer, Dr. Syed Muddassir Hussain Shah and HDO, Jatinder Paul Singh have been deputed to accompany the farmers throughout the visit.

On the occasion, Chief Horticulture Officer, Uttam Lal, District Information Officer, Pallvi Verma besides other concerned officers/officials were present.
