Ganderbal : Department of Communication and Journalism (DCJ), School of Media Studies, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) organised a special lecture on “Conventional Media in the Digital Age,” at Tulmulla campus here Thursday.
In his keynote address, Prof. K G Suresh, Director of the India Habitat Centre, discussed the resilience of conventional media in the digital age, asserting that it is far from obsolete. He highlighted that newspapers remain a vital source of empowerment in India, particularly among politically aware citizens. While some foreign newspapers have ceased operations, Indian print media, especially in regional languages, continues to thrive, demonstrating adaptability to technological advancements rather than viewing them as competition. Prof. Suresh emphasized the importance of media literacy, urging students to read multiple newspapers daily to cultivate a well-rounded perspective. He expressed concern over the credibility crisis in media, warning against the influence of social media hype and the necessity for students to critically assess information.
