Srinagar : The Group of Concerned Citizens (GCC), J&K, has urged the Government to hold broad-based consultations before proceeding with recently announced projects, including the Lal Chowk–Parimpora Flyover/Grade Separator and the Inland Water Transport (IWT) system for Dal Lake and river Jhelum .
In a statement issued here on Monday the GCC said that while infrastructure development is welcome, projects of such nature and scale must be preceded by interdisciplinary review, environment impact assessment, and stakeholder dialogue to ensure technical, environmental, and social sustainability. The Group noted that the flyover could alter the visual and cultural fabric of Srinagar’s historic core, while the IWT system required careful ecological assessment given the fragile condition of the city’s waterways.
The GCC also proposed that Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of other ongoing proposals
