Noted scholars, poets, filmmakers revisit Rahi’s contribution to literature, cinema, cultural identity
Srinagar: A three-day international seminar celebrating the literary and cinematic legacy of Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza concluded at the University of Kashmir, organized by the Department of Students Welfare and IDEA Communications.
The event brought together scholars, poets, and creative practitioners to discuss Rahi’s significant contributions to Indian literature and cinema, emphasizing his unique ability to blend lyricism with social consciousness. The seminar featured notable speakers, including the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, who underscored the enduring relevance of Rahi’s works in shaping India’s cultural identity. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan highlighted the importance of literature and cinema as reflections of society, while Bollywood lyricist Sameer Anjaan praised Rahi for his empathetic approach to writing, which resonated with the struggles of ordinary people. Over 40 scholars presented their research on Rahi’s extensive body of work, which spans novels, poetry, and film scripts, addressing themes of identity and community. The seminar also included a cultural component, featuring an International Urdu Mushaira–Kavi Sammelan organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, which celebrated the linguistic diversity Rahi championed. The event concluded with a reaffirmation of Rahi Masoom Raza’s legacy as a creative visionary who inspired generations to find meaning in everyday life through art.
