Ganderbal : The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) at the Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) hosted an expert lecture on the prevention, prohibition, and redressal of sexual harassment in higher education institutions.
The lecture was delivered by Prof. Viney Kapoor Mehra, a distinguished academician and former Vice Chancellor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University. Prof. Sandhya Tiwari, Chairperson of the ICC, emphasized the committee’s critical role in addressing sexual harassment and acknowledged the support from the university administration, which contributed to the event’s success. Prof. Mehra provided a comprehensive overview of the Vishaka Guidelines and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, highlighting the legal and ethical obligations of educational institutions to create a safe environment for women. She outlined the Act’s three main components—prevention, prohibition, and redressal—and stressed the importance of the ICC in managing complaints. Additionally, she called for increased awareness initiatives, gender sensitization workshops, and a robust institutional framework to foster respect and equality on campuses.
