CUK’s Deptt of English holds lectures on ‘feminism’

Ganderbal : The Department of English at the Central University of Kashmir organized a lecture on “Feminism,” presented by Prof. Prerna Malhotra, a distinguished scholar in literary studies and gender discourse.

The session aimed to deepen students’ understanding of feminist theory, its historical development, and its significance in modern society and literature. Prof. Sandhya Tiwari, Head of the Department, opened the session by emphasizing the importance of revisiting feminist frameworks, particularly within the Indian socio-literary context. She acknowledged the support of the Vice-Chancellor and the administration in facilitating such discussions and highlighted the department’s commitment to introducing diverse intellectual perspectives. In her lecture, Prof. Malhotra traced the evolution of feminist thought, defining feminism as a movement and discussing its first, second, and third waves. She addressed the critical nature of gender binaries and the social conditions that prompted the liberation movement for marginalized genders. Prof. Malhotra underscored the interdisciplinary nature of feminism, illustrating how feminist perspectives have shaped literature, culture, and critical theory. She advocated for th
