Srinagar : The Institute of Technology (IoT) at Zakura Campus, University of Kashmir (KU) on Friday hosted a two-day awareness programme titled “Cybersecurity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” in conjunction with global cybersecurity awareness month.
The initiative aims to enhance understanding and capacity among students, researchers, and professionals regarding the emerging challenges in cybersecurity, particularly as they relate to the rapid advancements in AI technologies. Speaking at the inaugural session, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan emphasized the necessity of coupling technological advancements with a strong awareness of cyber ethics and data safety. She underscored the importance of understanding cybersecurity for responsible digital citizenship as AI becomes increasingly integrated into daily life. The university is dedicated to equipping its students with the skills needed to navigate the digital landscape safely and responsibly. Prof. Shariefuddin Pirzada, Dean of Academic Affairs, pointed out the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration in tackling cybersecurity issues, asserting that awareness programmes like this one are vital for bridging the gap between technology and policy. DIG Traffic Kashmir, Sheikh Junaid Mehmood, highlighted the escalating threat of cybercrimes and encouraged students to become informed digital citizens capable of identifying, preventing, and reporting such incidents. Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal reiterated the university’s commitment to fostering digital literacy and resilience among its community, stressing the importance of continuous learning to keep up with evolving technological threats. Director of IoT Zakura Campus, Prof. Tariq Banday, noted that the programme aims to provide participants with practical knowledge on AI-based cybersecurity tools, threat detection, and preventive strategies. The event featured expert sessions and interactive discussions led by cybersecurity professionals and academicians, focusing on AI applications, digital privacy, and protection. The inaugural session was well-attended by various department heads, faculty members, scholars, and students from both the Main and Zakura campuses.
