Legislators raise several public issues during Zero Hour in J&K Assembly
Srinagar: The Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, Wednesday urged legislators to exercise restraint and use measured language while participating in debates to uphold the sanctity of the House. He observed that members, as representatives of the people, must show mutual respect and maintain the decorum of the Assembly.
During the Zero Hour, several legislators raised pressing public issues, concerning their respective constituencies.
Shagun Parihar, MLA Kishtwar, highlighted that certain remote areas like Chatter to Oli continue to lack road access, forcing residents to carry patients in palkis.She also sought expeditious completion of ongoing road projects in her constituency.
Iftikhar Ahmad, MLA Rajouri, called for immediate disbursal of flood relief and reconstruction of damaged infrastructure, besides urging for the timely conduct of DPCs in the Education Department for Jammu division.
Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, MLA Kulgam, emphasized that every citizen has the right to express concerns freely. He demanded that detainees and youth from J&K lodged in prisons outside the Union Territory be shifted back on humanitarian grounds to facilitate easier access for their families.
Surjit Singh Slathia, MLA Samba, demanded an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in allotment of land in Sainik Colony and sought return of money to ex-servicemen and their families who are yet to receive plots.
Mubarak Gul, MLA Eidgah, called for the introduction of regional languages up to the university level and establishment of hostels for Kashmiri students in Jammu.
Ali Mohammad Sagar, MLA Khanyar, reiterated the importance of strengthening democratic values, reminding members that they hold a sacred responsibility as policymakers and law-makers elected by the people.
Randhir Singh, MLA Kalakote–Sunderbani, flagged inadequate funding for PHE projects, shortage of doctors, and lack of SRTC bus services in his constituency.
Chaudhary Mohammad Akram, MLA Surankote, sought early completion of the Bufliaz–Surankote road and compensation for land donors whose payments remain pending.
Pirzada Farooq Ahmad Shah, MLA Gulmarg, expressed concern over the growing menace of food adulteration in the Valley and urged the government to take strict measures against violators.
Ali Mohammad Dar, MLA Chadoora, demanded rectification of land records to ensure actual owners are correctly reflected in revenue documents.
Sunil Bhardwaj, MLA Ramnagar, raised the issue of rehabilitation of flood-affected families, seeking allotment of an additional 5 marlas for cattle sheds. He also demanded the installation of mobile towers in Dudu-Basantgarh and appointment of permanent faculty at the Jammu University campus in Ramnagar.
Sajad Gani Lone, MLA Handwara, supported the demand for shifting J&K detainees from outside jails to the Union Territory.
Saifullah Mir, MLA Trehgam, voiced concern over the sale of frozen and rotten meat in the Valley and demanded a probe into the negligence of enforcement officers.
Prof. Gharu Ram Bhagat, MLA Suchetgarh, called for upgrading the Higher Secondary School at Deblehar into a Degree College and constructing a sports stadium in his constituency.
Dr. Bharat Bhushan, MLA Kathua, sought restoration of flood-damaged roads and pipelines, along with provision of potable drinking water through tankers in affected areas.
Tanveer Sadiq, MLA Zadibal, demanded release of government advertisements to the local newspapers.
Salman Sagar, MLA Hazratbal, demanded augmentation of drinking water supply in his constituency where several areas face scarcity.
Javaid Riyaz Bedar, MLA Pattan, pointed out delays in completion of ongoing PHE projects due to shortage of funds.
Shakti Raj Parihar, MLA Doda West, and Altaf Ahmad Wani, MLA Pahalgam, also highlighted issues related to damaged road infrastructure, rehabilitation of affected populations, and difficulties faced by locals in obtaining forest clearances for construction purposes.
