Srinagar: A group of Basic Horticulture Training (BHT) and Basic Agriculture Training (BAT) aspirants have appealed to the Director, Extension Education, SKUAST-Kashmir, to increase the number of seats and conduct another round of counselling to prevent loss of their academic year.
In a written representation addressed to the Director Extension, the aspirants expressed gratitude for the university’s decision to conduct an additional counselling session held on October 28, 2025. However, they said that only one seat was made available during the session, which was “insufficient” given the number of eligible candidates awaiting admission.
“We are very thankful to your esteemed self for accepting our request and conducting another round of counselling for us, but one seat was not enough. We request that at least three to five more seats be increased so that more deserving candidates can be accommodated,” the aspirants said in their appeal.
The students further requested the SKUAST-K administration to act swiftly, stating that any further delay could cost them an entire academic year. “Please help us save our year and our future, as the admission session is already over,” they urged.
They added that several meritorious candidates who had completed all formalities are now at risk of losing their chance to join the ongoing academic session. The aspirants expressed confidence that under the “visionary leadership” of the Director Extension, their grievance would be addressed on priority.
Sources said the university had earlier received multiple representations from candidates seeking expansion of intake capacity in the BHT and BAT programmes in view of growing demand for agricultural skill-based courses in the Valley.
