Srinagar : A five-day workshop on Hydrological Modelling commenced on Monday at the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Kashmir, focusing on enhancing the technical skills of students and research scholars in understanding hydrological processes amid changing climatic conditions.
Organized by the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, the workshop features expert sessions led by Dr. A.K. Lohani, a former Scientist-G and Head of the Surface Water Hydrology Division at the National Institute of Hydrology. The Vice-Chancellor of KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, emphasized the importance of such workshops in bridging the gap between academic learning and practical applications, equipping scholars with the expertise needed for effective water resource management in a changing climate. Dean of Academic Affairs, Prof. Shariefuddin Pirzada, highlighted the university’s commitment to skill-based training programs that integrate scientific research with practical problem-solving to support sustainable development goals. Dr. Lohani will conduct a series of lectures and hands-on training sessions focused on advanced hydrological models and analytical tools for simulating water flow, predicting floods, and managing catchment hydrology. The workshop is attended by faculty members and scholars from various departments, aiming to strengthen interdisciplinary research and enhance capacity in hydrological analysis and modeling within the region.
