Srinagar| Oct, 27: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called upon the Election Commission of India (ECI) to postpone the nationwide special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls until after the Bihar assembly elections.
Talking to reporters in the assembly complex Omar expressed concerns about the potential benefits of the SIR, suggesting that it may not be advantageous and could appear as if the Election Commission is under political pressure. Abdullah criticized the previous delimitation process in Jammu and Kashmir, claiming it was designed to benefit a specific political party rather than the public. He dismissed allegations of a secret understanding between his National Conference (NC) party and the BJP regarding the recent Rajya Sabha elections, asserting that the NC stands firmly against the BJP.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining cordial relations between his government and the central government for effective governance, while firmly stating that there will be no future collaboration between the NC and the BJP. Responding to accusations of election manipulation, Abdullah questioned the motives of those who did not participate in the voting process and called for transparency regarding the actions of MLAs who cross-voted or wasted their votes during the Rajya Sabha elections.
