Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Baramulla, Shopian & Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
According to a police statement issued here on Friday a police team at a checkpoint near Gingel Bridge apprehended Tahir Hameed, who was found in possession of 7 grams of a heroin-like substance. In a separate incident in Shopian, another police team at the Narwani-Amerbug crossing intercepted Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, recovering 1.480 kilograms of a charas-like substance from him. Additionally, in Anantnag, officers stopped a vehicle (Alto K10) with three individuals on board, including Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Feroz Ahmad Dass, and Ajaz Ahmad Mattoo. During the search, 4.584 kilograms of poppy straw were discovered concealed in a nylon bag, leading to the seizure of the vehicle involved in the crime. Following these incidents, police have registered cases under relevant legal sections at their respective stations, and investigations are currently underway. Police in its statement reiterated its commitment to intensify its drive against drug peddling to safeguard the youth and maintain a drug-free society.
