Srinagar : The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah Thursday said that the Congress continues to support the ruling coalition in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for Friday.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the National Conference (NC) President on Thursday set aside the concerns regarding the alliance with the Congress party, affirming their support and collaboration. He clarified his decision not to contest the Rajya Sabha elections, stating his current priority is to strengthen Jammu and Kashmir. With over 22 years of parliamentary experience, he emphasized the importance of focusing on local issues and empowering the younger generation to represent the region in Parliament. In response to comments made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath about halal certification, Dr. Abdullah highlighted the significance of India’s unity in diversity, asserting that the decision rests with the people of Uttar Pradesh. He stressed the need for patience and tolerance, reminding that India’s strength lies in its acceptance of various religions. On the topic of U.S. tariffs, Dr. Abdullah urged the American leadership to reconsider their stance, warning against the dangers of arrogance in global governance. He referenced historical precedents where empires fell due to such attitudes, calling for a more thoughtful approach from President Trump. Regarding the installation of smart electricity meters in Kashmir, he encouraged the public to understand the government’s rationale and to use electricity responsibly. He pointed out the substantial costs incurred by the government in power procurement, underscoring the necessity for efficient resource management.
