Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested six long-evading absconders in Sopore, Shopian and Awantipora who had been on the run for years in separate cases.
According to police statement issued here on Thursday In Sopore, two absconders have been apprehended by the police after years of evasion. One absconder Saleem Ahmad Sheikh, son of Fojia Sheikh, was wanted in connection with Case FIR No. 29/2003 under Sections 379 and 511 of the RPC at Police Station Dangiwacha. He had been on the run since 2003. Following extensive efforts law enforcers located and arrested him. The second absconder Bashir Ahmad Mir, son of Ali Mohammad Mir, was wanted for Case FIR No. 134/2012 under Section 379 of the RPC at Police Station Tarzoo. He had been absconding since 2016 and was also arrested after thorough tracking by the police. Both individuals will undergo legal proceedings and be presented before the appropriate courts after the completion of necessary legal formalities. Police in its statement said that these arrests mark another success in Police’s sustained crackdown against fugitives and those evading the process of law, reiterating therein its commitment to uphold the rule of law and ensure justice by bringing every absconder and proclaimed offender to face due legal process.
