Workshops, hands-on academic programs to remain a key focus

Srinagar : Following the success of the Alumni Back to Classroom (ABC) initiative, the Alumni Outreach Program (AOP) is being rolled out at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar with the objective of extending practical knowledge and exposure to students and teachers across the Valley. The program will include workshops, symposia, and hands-on training sessions in emerging and interdisciplinary areas to strengthen the link between academia, industry, and society.
Established in 1960, NIT Srinagar (erstwhile REC Srinagar) has made remarkable progress in academics, research, and innovation. Its distinguished alumni — a global community of nearly 40,000 professionals — continue to be the proud torchbearers of this legacy. Their achievements mirror the aspirations and advancement of the nation. Through AOP, these accomplished alumni will share their expertise, industry experience, and practical insights with students and faculty, enriching the Institute’s academic ecosystem and promoting a culture of applied learning.
The outreach initiative also includes a School Connect Program for high school and college students, Online Executive Education for teachers, and Community Engagement activities aimed at nurturing scientific curiosity and bridging the gap between academia and the public. As World Science Day will be observed on November 11, 2025, NIT Srinagar plans to align the AOP activities with this occasion to celebrate the spirit of knowledge sharing and innovation.
Speaking on the launch, Prof. M A Shah, Dean Alumni & International Affairs), NIT Srinagar, said,
Our Alumni Outreach Program reflects the Institute’s commitment to fostering collaboration and continuous learning. It connects experience with aspiration — the wisdom of our alumni with the curiosity of our students — to build a stronger and more vibrant academic community. We envision AOP as a sustained bridge linking classroom learning with the frontiers of professional practice and societal need.”
The Alumni Affairs Office at NIT Srinagar continues to serve as a vital platform for promoting lifelong learning and knowledge exchange across the domains of science, technology, academia, and industry.
