Srinagar: Police on Saturday conducted a mass disposal drive of seized narcotic substances under the supervision of the District Level Drug Disposal Committee.
According to police statement issued here on Saturday the destruction of contraband substances was conducted under the supervision of the Addl. Sessions Judge Budgam and the Addl. Munsiff Srinagar, with the presence of officials from the Pollution Control Board, local administration, and law enforcement agencies. This operation adhered to Section 52-A of the NDPS Act and took place at the Kashmir Healthcare System Bio-Medical Waste Unit in Pulwama, ensuring compliance with legal and environmental standards. The seized items, which were part of nine NDPS cases from various police stations in the district, included significant quantities of illegal drugs: 38.5 kg of poppy straw, 21.66 kg of charas powder, 418 grams of ganja, and 80 grams of charas, collectively valued at around ₹41 lakhs. Police in its statement reiterated its commitment to combat drug-related issues in society and appealed people to report any drug-related activities to local authorities.
