Harvinder directs road Safety, completion of Highway Works

Doda | Oct, 17:  Deputy Commissioner Doda Harvinder Singh Friday chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the progress of road safety and infrastructure works being executed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).

The meeting focused on the ongoing works along the Batote–Kishtwar National Highway, with special emphasis on improving road safety, maintaining traffic flow and ensuring the timely completion of developmental projects.

Detailed discussions were held regarding construction of crash barriers, culverts, drainage systems, blacktopping and widening of narrow stretches. The DC directed the concerned departments to ensure the immediate removal of encroachments and expedite the blacktopping of the Batote–Nashri road. He also emphasized that blacktopping of all key stretches must be completed before the onset of winter to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and avoid road damage during snowfall. Additionally, he instructed the NHIDCL to expedite the shifting of electricity towers obstructing road work and constituted a committee to review and resolve the matter. Stressing on public safety, the DC instructed the NHIDCL to prioritize widening of sharp curves and strengthening of retaining walls, particularly at sensitive locations such as Khellani Mahalla, Ragi Nallah, Assar stretch and Thanda Pani.

The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the status of bridge construction along the highway and instructed the executing agencies to accelerate the pace of work. He specifically directed the removal of a large boulder at Jalebi Mohare, Pul Doda to prevent any potential mishaps and ensure smooth vehicular movement. The progress of blacktopping work on the Goha–Marmat stretch was also discussed, with clear directions to expedite execution and prepare for winter snowfall to maintain connectivity during harsh weather conditions.
