New Delhi, October 16, 2025 — The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) today stated that India is closely monitoring the escalating situation between Afghanistan and Pakistan, while sharply criticising Islamabad for hosting terror groups and deflecting blame for its own internal issues.
Briefing the media this afternoon, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal delivered a strong condemnation of Pakistan’s foreign policy approach, stating, “it is clear that Pakistan hosts terrorist organisations and sponsors terrorist activities.”
Jaiswal further added that Pakistan’s strategy of blaming its neighbours is an “old practice… for its own internal failures.” He indicated that the core of the current tension is Pakistan’s reaction to Afghanistan asserting control over its territory. “Pakistan is infuriated with Afghanistan exercising sovereignty over its own territories,” he said, reaffirming that “India remains fully committed to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of Afghanistan.”
In a separate but related development signaling New Delhi’s deeper commitment to its ties with Kabul, the spokesperson addressed the status of the Indian presence in Afghanistan.
Jaiswal informed the media that India’s Technical Mission, which has been operational in Kabul since June 2022, will be upgraded. He confirmed that its “transition to an Embassy will happen in the next few days.”
