Awantipora | : A two-day National Level Seminar on “Scientific Honey Beekeeping Integrated with Oilseed Mission” has commenced at the Innovation Campus of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) in Awantipora.
Sponsored by Ni-MSME Hyderabad, the seminar aims to bring together experts, policymakers, researchers, and entrepreneurs to discuss the scientific, economic, and entrepreneurial aspects of apiculture and its integration with the National Oilseed Mission. The inaugural session featured Javid Ahmad Dar, the Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, who praised IUST’s efforts in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. He visited various labs at the university, expressing his support for initiatives that promote agri-tech development. Prof. Shakil A. Romshoo, Vice Chancellor of IUST, highlighted the economic and ecological significance of beekeeping in enhancing agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods. He emphasized the region’s favorable conditions for high-quality honey production and the potential for export-oriented MSME growth. Prof. Vikas Nanda from SLIET discussed advancements in apiculture research, focusing on technological improvements in honey quality and production efficiency. Prof. Zafar U. Ahmad, CEO of AGBA, underscored the importance of branding and promoting Kashmiri honey on an international scale. The seminar also featured contributions from Prof. A. H. Moon, who noted the relevance of linking research with practical applications. The event was attended by various stakeholders, including faculty members, students, and beekeepers from across Kashmir.
