Srinagar | : Police on Wednesday, police launched awareness programmes at Government Higher Secondary School, Salia, and Government Degree College Sopore on educating students and staff about newly introduced criminal laws and the increasing threat of drug abuse.
The sessions, focused on key features and objectives of three new laws: Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (BSA), which replace the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act. The programs aimed to enhance students’ understanding of their rights, duties, and responsibilities as informed citizens within the reformed legal framework. Additionally, a dedicated session in Anantnag addressed drug abuse prevention, emphasizing the psychological, physical, and social consequences of substance abuse, particularly among youth. Students were informed about the legal penalties under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and were encouraged to pursue a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
