Srinagar | : Police in Baramulla on Wednesday launched a surprise inspection of SIM card vendors in the Tangmarg area to ensure compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) norms and Department of Telecommunications (DoT) guidelines.
The operation involved thorough checks of vendor records and customer documentation to identify any procedural lapses. While many vendors adhered to legal requirements, some discrepancies were noted, including the issuance of SIM cards without valid identification. As a result, questionable SIM cards and related documents were seized, and vendors violating regulations faced legal action. Those with minor infractions received warnings. This initiative underscores the Baramulla Police’s commitment to protecting communication networks and preventing misuse by criminal elements. Police on this occasion appealed people to acquire SIM cards only from authorized sources and warned vendors to strictly follow procedural guidelines to avoid severe penalties.
