Srinagar | : Police on Wednesday said that it has seized large quantities of banned narcotic substances in Srinagar and arrested multiple individuals in connection with drug trafficking.
In coordinated operations across Srinagar city Police teams seized illegal drugs, resulting in multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) registered. Police Station Shalteng recovered 36.770 kg of Ganja from a residence in Dilawar Colony, leading to the arrest of Jehangir Ahmad Dar and Mohd Rafiq Dar under FIR No. 75/2025, which pertains to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. In a related incident, an additional 11.500 kg of Ganja was found in the attic of a cowshed at the residence of Mohd Altaf Dar, who was also arrested. In another case, Police Station Panthachowk seized a significant quantity of Clonazepam, a banned psychotropic drug, from Maqsood Ahmad Mir, who was arrested under FIR No. 78/2025. Additionally, 16 kg of charas was recovered from Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, and 15 kg of charas powder was found with Mehraj-ud-din Ganie, both of whom were apprehended and charged under separate FIRs. Overall, six accused have been arrested in connection with these drug-related offenses, and investigations are ongoing to explore further connections within the drug trafficking network. Police in its statement reiterated its commitment to dismantle the networks and appealed people to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
