Int’ Girl Child Day celebrated in Rajouri: DC highlights initiatives for women empowerment, safety

Rajouri | : Social Welfare Department in collaboration with the District Administration Rajouri today celebrated International Girl Child Day Celebrated Day with great enthusiasm at Dak Bungalow, Rajouri.

Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

While speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner congratulated all women and girls on this special day and lauded their remarkable contributions in various fields.

He highlighted that Dr. Ayushi Sudan became the first lady IAS officer from Rajouri, while this year, Iram Choudhary brought laurels to the district by becoming the first IFS officer from Rajouri.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC underscored the initiatives undertaken by the District Administration to promote women empowerment and gender equality. He mentioned the upgradation of JayShree Library under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative at DIC Rajouri, sponsorship programs for children’s education, organization of self-defence training for girl students and the constitution of Sexual Harassment Committees in all government offices across the district.

Deputy Commissioner also urged young girls to remain vigilant against the menace of drugs and to exercise caution while using mobile phones, emphasizing the risks of photo misuse and online exploitation. He further informed that steps would be taken to reserve seats for women in public transport to ensure their safety and convenience.

Students from various educational institutions participated in the event and presented thought-provoking skits and speeches highlighting the theme of “The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis”

The event concluded with the felicitation of girl achievers who have excelled in diverse fields such as education, sports and social service.

District Social Welfare Officer, Abdul Raheem, presented the vote of thanks. Among others present on the occasion were DySP Satish Sharma, DEPO, DYSSO and other district and sectoral officers.
